Qualitative research explores and reports people’s individual and subjective experiences of the world with the goal of learning what is true for them. It involves learning how people create their own realities and understanding that truth is subjective and is dependent on the individual. In essence, this is the Social Construction Theory. It contrasts the Scientific Method of research which assumes there is an objective truth one is trying to discover and that with proper design and measures, the objective truth can be discovered. This is the fundamental difference between qualitative and quantitative research.
